SUT Delegation Visits SDUW

From May 2nd to 3rd, a delegation of Swinburne University of Technology (SUT) led by Prof. Alan Lau, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Performance and Development), and Prof. Geoffrey Brooks, Director of the “Joint Research Center in Advanced Manufacturing” (hereafter as the Center), visited Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW). Prof. Chen Guanjun, Vice President of SDUW, met with the guests. Relevant staff from Research Department and School of Mechanical, Electrical and Information Engineering, attended the activities.

During the meeting, Prof. Chen pointed out that SDUW has been attaching great importance to internationalization, which contributes to the rapid progress made in the cooperation between SDUW and SUT. The Center is a very good example of the achievement delivered by a deepened partnership. He also expressed his wish that the two universities could make further achievement in student exchange as well as research collaboration, contributing to local and regional economic development. 

Prof. Lau extended his gratitude to SDUW for lending great support to the preparation work for the Center, and emphasized that SUT will seek financial support for its future development. He also expressed his wish that the two parties could launch the joint training programs for doctoral students as scheduled. In addition, the two parties exchanged opinion regarding laboratory equipment as well as the unveiling ceremony of the Center etc.

During the visit, the delegation held a meeting with SDUW graduate students from School of Mechanical, Electrical and Information Engineering. Prof. Brooks made an introduction of key disciplines and supervisors of STU regarding the joint training programs for doctoral students.   

On May 3rd, in the company of Mr. Gao Jun, Director of Research Department, and Ms. Wang Li, Deputy Dean of School of Mechanical, Electrical and Information Engineering, the delegation visited several enterprises in the Carbon Fiber Industrial Park of Weihai International Port Economic and Technological Development District, and met with Mr. Wang Wen, Deputy Director of the Management Committee. During the meeting, the attendees discussed details of cooperation between universities and local enterprises, and development of the Center etc.
