SDUW Alumni Association of Australia Established

The launching ceremony of Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW) Alumni Association of Australia was held at The University of Sydney (USYD) on July 24th. Mr. Yin Zuosheng, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of SDUW, and Mr. Iain Watt, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University of Technology Sydney and former Pro Vice-Chancellor of The University of Western Australia (UWA) attended the ceremony. Staff from Students’ Affairs Office, International Office, School of Business, and alumni representatives attended the launching ceremony.

On behalf of SDUW, Mr. Yin extended congratulations on the founding of Alumni Association and introduced the general information about the development of Shandong University and SDUW, the Double Top University Plan and alumni affairs. He said that SDUW has made great development in international joint education which would definitely benefit the alumni. He expressed his wish that the alumni could cooperate and communicate closely with each other and contribute to the development of SDUW. Mr. Watt reviewed the studying experiences of the alumni in Australia, and encouraged them to make greater achievements with unremitting efforts. 

At the ceremony, the first council members of Alumni Association were determined. As alumni representatives, Mr. Chu Tianlun and Mr. Chang Qing spoke respectively on behalf of other alumni to express their gratitude towards SDUW, and promised that they would work jointly to promote the cultural exchange and communication between China and Australia.

SDUW started to cooperate with universities in Australia in 2012, and has cooperated with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Mechanical Engineering, The Australia National University (ANU) in Computer Science&Technology, and The University of Western Australia (UWA) in Finance, which provided students the opportunities to study in world-class universities. Up to now, SDUW has sent 379 students to Australia, and more than 80% of the graduates chose to further their studies at ANU, USYD, The University of New South Wales, The University of Melbourne and UWA, etc., among which three students won the scholarship of Melbourne Business School, five continued to study for their doctorate, and nearly 20 have won scholarship of Australian universities.
