A Brief Introduction to the City of Weihai

Weihai is the first city awarded China's National Clean City;
The first National Model City Cluster for Environmental Protection;
The first National Excellent Tourist City Cluster;
The first National Garden City Cluster in Northern China;
Twice awarded by the UN as Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment;
The UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award;
Top 40 China Investment Environment and Top 50 Comprehensive Economic Strength City in China;
Ranked 15th in the China City Public Civilization Index.

An open coastal city – Weihai is located at the center of the Northeast Asian and Bohai Economic Rim and has established the trade and economic cooperation with 189 countries and regions. Weihai has developed three national and six provincial economic development zones, four provincial level tourist resorts and groups of specialized parks to allow the different industries at the different levels to move their business operations to Weihai.  

A high-end industry city—Weihai puts emphasis on the cultivation of six marine competitive industrial bases such as the marine products production and processing base, the ship building and repairing base, the port logistics base, the coastal travel and vacation base, the new energy base and the modern petrifaction base, and on the cultivation and development of the high-end industries in five fields of high-tech and new technology industry, advanced manufacturing industry, modern services industry, efficient ecological agriculture and strategic industries.

A strong marine economy city—Weihai has a coastline of nearly one thousand kilometers, and covers an ocean territory area of 10,000 square kilometers. The annual marine products output is more than 2 million tons. Weihai is China’s marine products collection and distribution base, and has won the titles of China’s Demonstration Base for the Development of Marine Health Food and Demonstration City for the Agricultural Exports Safety.

An ecological livable city—While being endowed with a beautiful scenery, the city has both an agreeable climate and a pleasant environment. It is neither hot in summer nor cold in winter. With a reasonable degree of dryness and humidity, the city enjoys a 100% rate in excellent air quality and 47.2% greenery coverage in downtown.

A city for scientific and technical innovation—Weihai has 13 national level and 137 provincial research and development platforms and 11 provincial level academician work centers. Weihai have established science, technology and talent cooperative relationship with more than 100 universities and research institutes.

A city of tourist resort—Weihai is China’s well-known coastal travel and leisure resorts and the city of natural hot springs. There are more than 80 tourist attractions (scenic spots) with around 25 million domestic and oversea person-trips visiting in 2011.
