SDUW Delegation Visits Partner Universities in Japan

From May 8th to 12th, a delegation led by Prof. Chen Guanjun, Vice President of Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW), paid a visit to Hokkai School of Commerce, Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), and Meio University (MEIO). Relevant staff of International Office and School of Translation Studies, accompanied Prof. Chen during the visit.

At Hokkai School of Commerce, the delegation held a meeting with Prof. Masao Morimoto, Chairman of Board of Governors. Prof. Chen first pointed out that Hokkai School of Commerce was the first partner university SDUW had in Japan. He added that since the signing of agreement in 2005, the two universities have been maintaining a sound partnership by signing cooperation agreements with reference to exchange of teachers, undergraduates and graduates etc., while delivering fruitful achievements in these areas.

Prof. Morimoto extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He expressed that Hokkai-Gakuen University has been attaching great importance to the exchange with SDUW, thus greatly enhancing its reputation as well as influence on Chinese language teaching. He also expected that more colleges at Hokkai-Gakuen could be involved in the cooperation. After the meeting, the two parties exchanged opinion regarding credit articulation and exchange programs in 2017.

At SIT, the delegation was warmly welcomed by its President, Prof. Masato Murakami. Prof. Chen expressed that signing of the agreement during this visit will further extend the cooperation between SDUW and universities in Japan, providing a broader platform for teachers and students. Prof. Murakami expressed his wish that the two universities could carry out joint education programs, teachers exchanges and other forms of cooperation. Later, two parties exchanged opinion regarding student exchange program, and signed a student exchange agreement according to which SDUW students could study at SIT for six months or one year as an exchange student.

At Meio, the delegation held a meeting with Prof. Katsunori Yamazato, President of Meio University. Prof. Chen said that since the signing of cooperative agreement in June 2016, both parties have realized substantive exchange programs of the students. He also extended his expectancy that the two universities could, on the basis of student exchange, further carry out exchange of teachers, research collaboration and cooperation in other fields.

Prof. Yamazato, spoke highly of SDUW’s development achievement and its strategy of internationalization. Later, both parties discussed details of the exchange programs and joint education programs for undergraduate students, and reached a preliminary intention. 
During the visit, the delegation also visited SDUW students studying at Hokkai School of Commerce, Waseda University and Meio University, and encouraged them to study hard while staying in Japan.
