ANU Delegation Visits SDUW

From September 8th to 9th, an ANU delegation which includes Prof. Alistair Rendell, Director of Research School of Computer Science, Prof. Allen Rodrigo, Director of Research School of Biology, etc. visited Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW), and attended its orientation week. On September 8th, Prof. Chen Guanjun, Vice President of SDUW, met with the guests. Relevant staff from the International Office, School of Ocean Biology, School of Mechanical, Electrical & Information Engineering, School of Space Science and Physics, and School of Mathematics and Statistics also attended the meetings.     

           

Prof. Chen reviewed the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. He pointed out that the frequent academic exchanges have further deepened our partnership over the years, and both have contributed a lot to the preparation work for the “SDU-ANU Joint International Science College”. He further extended his wish that SDUW and ANU could develop joint research collaboration between the teaching staff based on the current cooperation.

           

Prof. Rendell spoke highly of the jointly-running Computer Program, and expressed his wish that ANU could receive more outstanding students from SDUW, by which the two could achieve a more profound cooperation in areas of science. Later, the two discussed issues with reference to undergraduate teaching in subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.

On September 9th, the delegation met with freshmen from School of Ocean Biology, School of Mechanical, Electrical & Information Engineering, School of Space Science and Physics, and School of Mathematics and Statistics respectively, during which the delegates introduced ANU and answered questions from the students and parents.

              

During the stay, the delegation also visited the Observatory and laboratories of School of Space Science and Physics, and School of Ocean Biology, and exchanged opinions regarding research collaboration with SDUW teaching staff.
