SDUW Holds the Launching Ceremony of 2018 Students’ Overseas Learning Experience

On July 4th, the Launching Ceremony of 2018 Students’ Overseas Learning Experience was held at Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW). Prof. Liu Jianya, Vice President of Shandong University and President of SDUW, along with staff from Teaching Affairs Office, Students’ Affairs Office, Graduate Department, International Office, Youth League Committee, and students representatives attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Xia Lidong, Vice President of SDUW.

Prof. Liu first extended his congratulations to students who took part in the 2018 SDUW overseas programs. He said that SDUW would continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with world-class universities, so that more teachers and students could participate in and benefit from the internationalization of the university. In addition, he expressed his wish that the students could seize the opportunity of studying abroad, and fully explore the local cultures.

At the ceremony, Prof. Liu, along with other SDUW staff members awarded the student representatives with the SDUW Presidential Scholarship. In addition, relevant staff from SDUW offices and departments presented flags to the 15 teams participating in 2018 summer sessions held in Australia, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, South Korea, Japan, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan area.

As student representatives, Mr. Xu Haoran from School of Business, and Miss Tao Huimin from School of Translation Studies spoke respectively on behalf of all students winning the scholarship, in which they expressed their gratitude towards SDUW for providing them the opportunity to study abroad, and promised that they would live up to the expectations of teachers and parents while studying at world-class universities. Miss Qi Youqian, doctoral student from School of Space Science and Physics, gave a speech sharing her experiences of attending international conferences, during which she emphasized that such experiences have improved not only her professional skills, but also her ability of interpersonal communication.    

In 2018, SDUW will send 589 students attending different programs to study overseas for two years, one year, or a short period of time at 59 universities and colleges, including prestigious institutes such as University of California, Irvine (UCI), The Australian National University, University of Oxford, and Chung-Ang University, etc. in the U.S., the U.K., South Korea, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Spain, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan area. As a prior task of internationalization of SDUW, the program of “Students’ Overseas Learning Experience”, with its increasing number of participants and higher level of partner universities, has become a feature of the undergraduate programs, contributing to the renowned reputation of SDUW among students, parents and local communities, etc.
